About Dr. Charlotte Roberts - Leadership and Motivational Speaker:
Dr. Charlotte Roberts is an executive consultant, speaker and writer who focuses on organizations' sustainability and competitiveness. She is co-author of two cutting-edge leadership books. The first one, The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook: Strategies and Tools for Building a Learning Organization, is a practical guidebook used for creating an enduring competitive advantage; over a million copies have been sold worldwide. Her second Fieldbook, The Dance of Change: The Challenges of Sustaining Momentum in Learning Organizations maps a pathway to sustaining system-wide change beyond the leadership team's personal drive and commitment. In 2000, Schools That Learn was published for educators, parents and people who care about education.
Charlotte has been an organizational development consultant for over 15 years. Her clients have been in different industries from shipbuilding to computer software and hardware design to consumer products and pet nutrition to healthcare delivery. She works with her clients on strategy implementation and building high-performing leadership teams and learning organizations.
Dr. Roberts uses her hands-on experience and wealth of anecdotes in keynote speaking, training and writing to engage others in learning. Recognizing the power of distance learning as early as 1993, Charlotte has hosted nation-wide satellite broadcasts on leadership, managing people and building the learning capacity of organizations. She and Peter Senge led a satellite broadcast series in 1995-96. In 1998, she introduced the sixth discipline of leadership in a nation-wide broadcast Conscious Oversight: The Sixth Discipline. This presentation is available in a training video being distributed by The Learning Consortium.
For three years, Dr. Roberts' column, Managing People, was featured in a business journal in the Philadelphia area. Her articles, Leading Total Quality and Can We Talk? appeared in the Journal for Quality and Participation.
What Dr. Charlotte Roberts Talks About:
Leadership: Conscious Oversight
Managers need a grand vision if they're going to lead their workers in the next century. In this informative video, longtime training consultant Charlotte Roberts maintains that so-called conscious oversite is the key to that grand vision.
Dr. Roberts, taking a page from Peter M. Senge's best-seller The Fifth Discipline, deems conscious oversight the sixth discipline of leadership. It means being able to see ourselves within larger contexts: our particular department, the company, the overall industry, the country, the global economy, and so forth. It also calls on the ability to use past traditions, current information, and future trends to make decisions that will benefit today's generations.
According to Dr. Roberts, conscious oversight comprises six themes, or intelligences. The first three, although basic, are worth revisiting: fiscal intelligence (understanding the flow of assets within the organization or household): social intelligence (sensing and enhancing relationships with coworkers, family, or friends); and noetic intelligence (engaging in productive conversation). The next three are fairly recent innovations: Emotional intelligence (the sense of fear or confidence that sets the emotional tone for an organization); environmental intelligence (paying heed to safety, design, comfort, aesthetics, and a good neighbor policy); and spiritual intelligence. Ideally, someone with conscious oversight would strive for mastery of all six areas.
Charlotte Roberts is an enthusiastic speaker on a topic that's sure to inspire employees at all levels, from trainees to team leaders to CEOs.
