About Chris Coffey - Management, Leadership and Team-Building Speaker:

Chris Coffey brings his own distinctive common-sense approach to designing and conducting workshops and keynotes in leadership, management, team-building, and influencing without authority. These customized workshops, tailored to the organization's culture and strengths, focus on specific areas that need improvement. Their primary purpose is to improve performance, more than merely to teach or communicate technique. In a realistic, down-to-earth manner, Chris works with executives and their teams to develop excellence in management and leadership ... in a feasible way with measurable, long-term, positive results. By his approach, Chris makes executive and management coaching a natural extension of the performance improvement process.

Chris's distinctive approach to the coaching role is built from an understanding of the belief set of successful people and how successful people get even better. With this understanding and the application of coaching skill, a developmental process is tailored to take advantage of the positive aspect of successful people's beliefs and to overcome the negative aspects that can interfere with development.

His corporate clients have included Amgen, Agilent, Apple, IBM, McKesson Medical, Microsoft and many other leading companies and institutions. Chris is a member of the faculty of the Technical Manager Program at UCLA and has been a guest professor at Gonzaga University in Florence, Italy. Chris is a founding partner of Prism Ltd.

In addition, he has worked with Marshall Goldsmith for a number of years, and is a co-designer with Frank Wagner of the Goldsmith Coaching Process Training. The Goldsmith Coaching Process is based upon Marshall Goldsmith's world recognized philosophy and methodologies. With this understanding and the application of coaching skill a developmental process is tailored to take advantage of the positive aspect of successful peoples' beliefs and overcome the negative aspects that can interfere with development.

Since 1999 Chris has coached over 70 individuals and several teams in the year long guaranteed improvement process.

What Chris Coffey Talks About:

What Got You Here Won't Get You There: Based on the book by Marshall Goldsmith
What's holding you back? Your hard work is paying off. You are doing well in your field. But there is something standing between you and the next level of achievement. Perhaps one small flaw. A behavior you barely even recognize is the only thing that's keeping you from where you want to be.

MOJO: Based on the book by Marshall Goldsmith
Mojo is that positive spirit toward what you doing right now that initiates on the inside and radiates to the outside. It's that moment we do something that's purposeful, powerful, and positive, it brings happiness and meaning to us, and the rest of the world recognizes it and acknowledges it. This keynote addresses how we acquire it, maintain it, nurture it, and recapture it when needed. The essence of Mojo is loving what you do and showing it.

The Excellent Manager
Excellent managers need a dynamic balance between supporting and improving one's commitments. Whether commitment is to customers, key business results, an individual/team, the organization's strategy and management or to oneself as a leader/manager, the levers to gaining commitment are:

Gaining Support by - focusing on what’s important, leading by example (relative to what’s important), rewarding success (on what’s important, nothing else), and managing disrespect (toward what’s important)

Gaining Improvement by - looking for a better way, learning from others, challenging expectations, and risking making changes.

Enhancing Team DNA
1. This keynote focuses on three dynamic pairs of leverage points for leaders that determine the ongoing performance a team achieves.
2. Diversity and Direction – an appropriate level of diversity in how members think and act interacts with a direction in which the team is headed'
3. Norms and Network – an appropriate set of behavioral rules play out in a network of interrelationships (nodes) and communications (connections)

Accountability and Accomplishments – individual and team accountability interacts with a track record of accomplishments creating history of success and/or failure.

Influence without Authority and Power
This keynote addresses invisible lines of trust needed to operate where formal lines of authority do not exist. As success becomes more dependent on building effective alliances and partnerships, the skills of aligning and acting are two critical.

  • Aligning through the skills of - establishing credibility, helping others, and building relationships.
  • Acting through the process of - taking purposeful action, providing value, and earning trust.
